From the City to the Hills with Belfast Car Hire

Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland and is located on the east coast of the country. Also part of the UK, the history and environment makes this city is a really wonderful place to visit. The natural surroundings are some of the most attractive features to the city. The inlet of the Belfast Lough and the guarding hills coupled with a classical European skyline give Belfast its charm. The best mode of transportation to all of the interesting places is with a car hire in Belfast. There are many attractions spread around the urban area that are readily accessible with a freedom of a cheap Belfast car hire.

The best place to start your Belfast explorations are in the city centre. Here you will find the the exquisite Belfast city hall and the Belfast Wheel. The city hall is in Baroque Revival style and was completed in 1906. This is truly one of the best places to visit in the city. Whether you go inside or not, the Belfast city hall will dazzle your senses. Located adjacent to the city hall is the iconic Belfast Wheel. It is a 60 meter high rotating observation wheel that offers unbeatable views of the city. Recently opened in 2007, the Belfast Wheel in itself is worth a trip to the city. If you have not been here for a while, now is a great opportunity to come back and see something new.

Moving away from the city center, you will be spoiled for interesting sites. The best way to travel to the places outside of downtown is with a cheap Belfast car hire. If you go to the east of the center you will find the Parliament Buildings at Stormont. More commonly referred to as “Stormont,” this building will take your breath away. There is a long road leading to the entrance that provides a picturesque setting. If you have a car hire in Belfast, drive to Stormont and park it so you can take the enchanting walk to the front door.

Although the manmade structures of the city are amazing, the true beauty of Belfast rests in the natural environment. The hills that guard the city are perfect for exploring and getting vistas of the urban area below. It is possible to hike all the way to the top of the most famous Cavehill, but the fastest route is to drive a Belfast car hire to the summit. Once on the peak, you will be treated to incredible views of the land and water surrounding Belfast. If the sky is clear, it is possible to see all the way to the Scotland and the Isle of Man that are 70 miles and 120 miles away respectively. The only thing that will bring you back from the pinnacle of Cavehill is the promise of a local beer or some Irish Whiskey. Following a long day of touring, the best place to resign is to one of Belfast’s famous pubs.

It Sure is a Hell of a Long Way From Scotland to Barbados!

I’m a Scotsman that has moved to the beautiful Caribbean Island of Barbados to live and I have been here for approximately 4 weeks. It sure is a hell of a long way from Scotland to Barbados; I have traveled over 4700 miles and spent about 9.5 hours on planes to get here.

Of course there are huge lifestyle and cultural differences between my home country of Scotland and Barbados, but there are surprisingly also many similarities, which I have also came across.

The people that live in Barbados are predominantly black, with a small but diverse range of other nationalities living in the country. The citizens of Scotland are predominantly white, with an ever-increasing number of different nationalities now choosing to make the country their home.

Bajans like the Scottish are very patriotic people and have a huge amount of national pride regarding their respective countries. The citizens of both Scotland and Barbados have something else in common and that is the friendliness of their characters and their willingness to embrace people from other countries.

Scotland and Barbados are both extremely beautiful countries, which both have fantastic countryside areas and an abundance of wonderful and secluded beaches which are amongst the best you will find anywhere in the world. The one big difference, I suppose is that I have never had to wear a jumper or jacket when I have been to the beach in Barbados. Also the last time I was brave or foolish enough to have a wee dip in the North Sea, back home in Scotland, I thought I was going to die from the cold, it was what I would call bracing.

The mighty Atlantic Ocean can be found on the east and north coasts of Barbados and Scotland is bordered by the Atlantic on its north and west coasts. The Atlantic Ocean may not be very good for swimming in, but it has provided me with hours of fun on my boogie board, which is great fun for the slightly more adventurous souls out there. On wild and stormy days in Scotland I use to love sitting in my car watching the huge waves that the Atlantic would bring crashing against the shore, I use to find it a great way to relax.

Barbados use to be governed by the United Kingdom, until 1966 when it received its independence and has done fairly well as a nation since then. Scotland on the other hand, is at the present time still very much a part of the United Kingdom; it was however giving its own parliament in 1999. Independence for Scotland is something that will undoubtedly happen at some point in the future.

It may be a long way to travel from Scotland to Barbados. The weather and climate may be hugely different here in the Caribbean, and I may have only being here for four weeks but I feel very much at home. I have traveled to many different countries in my life so far and none of them I would have willingly left Scotland to go and live in. Barbados is my kind country and I’m proud to call it home.

From Branch Manager to Regional Manager

No matter where you live in the world, the thoughts are always on promotion and attaining as high a position as possible. For many companies whether it’s retail or other types of sales-oriented businesses, one must come in on the ground floor and work up to the branch manager before even entertaining dreams of becoming a regional manager. The regional manager must have the ability to work on several levels of management since his job will entail interacting with those various levels, and even on occasion working directly with the sales staff.

Throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, companies that are recruiting for regional managers are looking for those who have experience working with both sales staff and other managers. It’s important for a regional manager to know a wide area because his job will entail overseeing operations in a number of stores or establishments that fall within his regional directive. The regional manager may work directly with branch managers, or depending on the size of the store, he may work through a district manager.

Regional managers make work throughout the world with companies that have international entities, and unlike branch managers, the regional manager may be in fields other than retail. In the United Kingdom, recruiters seek regional managers to work within the scope of charitable organisations to assure that the operation runs smoothly. In the manufacturing industry, a regional manager may be in charge of several plant locations in England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, assuring that product quality standards are maintained and that production quotas stay within reasonable variations.

It takes a special kind of person to assume the role of a regional manager because the position is not always a simple 9-5 routine, nor does it involve working with just a few people at a time. In most cases, the regional manager works with other managers, but there may be occasion for him to work with the employees as well, especially when the need for reorganising the way the job is performed. In some companies, the regional manager must give the final approval for new employees and may even sit in on the interview with the branch manager, but this depends upon the size of the company and the type of position for which the employee is being hired. For those interested in a career as a regional manager, you must be prepared to work with a variety of different personalities and with a range of management styles. Willingness to guide rather than direct is essential.
